UKICRS Symposium Strathclyde May 2017

9/6/2017

We had a fantastic time in Strathclyde for the 2017 UKICRS Symposium! The two day event was opened with a workshop session featuring talks from Cristina De Matteis (University of Nottingham) on public engagement and Clive Wilson (University of Strathclyde) on the importance of reinventing yourself during your career. An industrial exhibition was held in the evening time with representatives from a wide range of companies based in the UK and Ireland. Then it was off to Maggie May’s for the conference dinner!

The programme for Wednesday was a very busy one with two keynote talks from Dr. Steve Schwendeman (University of Michigan) on his work to date in the area of PLGA to control the release of large molecules and Joanne Thomas from ‘Standing Up For Science’. Throughout the day, we heard 11 excellent talks from PhD students and Postdoctoral researchers based around the UK and Ireland. An enjoyable interactive poster session was also held with over 40 excellent poster presentations from delegates. Congratulations to the winner of best oral presentation, Diana Leite from University of Portsmouth with a talk entitled 'Peptide nanofibers as targeted therapies for glioblastoma multiforme'. Two poster prizes were also awarded, to postgraduate student Pauric Bannigan (University of Limerick) and undergraduate student Jessica Millar (Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland).

Thanks so much to Prof. Yvonne Perrie and everyone in Strathclyde for organising a fantastic event! Looking forward to doing it all again next year!

Best wishes,
Carol
