2020 UKICRS Virtual Symposium
Due to the ongoing uncertainty around COVID-19, the UKICRS committee has taken the decision to host a virtual mini-Symposium this year rather than trying to get everyone together with the current social distancing restrictions in place.
The mini-Symposium is primarily aimed at postgraduate students, postdoctoral research fellows, industrialists and academics working in the fields of pharmaceutical sciences and drug delivery.
As in previous years, the symposium will offer a wide range of opportunities for young scientists to present their latest research.

Keynote Speakers
Vandana Patravale is Professor of Pharmaceutics at the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai, India. Her areas of research include development of nanocarriers with major emphasis on malaria, cancer and neurodegenerative disorders; medical device development, nanodiagnostics and nanovaccines. She has over 200 refereed publications, 11 granted patents, 24 patents in pipeline and 2 trademark registries. She has published 2 books and 25 book chapters with international publishers. Dr.Patravale has been active in teaching, research and service throughout her career. She was awarded Kukreja Oration award 2020, APTI's Dr. Manjushree Pal Best Pharmaceutical Scientist Award 2019, Shri Amrut Mody distinguished researcher award 2018, OPPI women scientist award 2015, Bill Melinda Gates grant award 2015, Best Pharmaceutical Scientist award 2014, VASVIK award 2013, Veneto nanotech award 2013, APTI best teacher award 2012, Fellowship of Maharashtra Academy of Sciences, 2011 and K.H. Garda Distinguished researcher award 2009. She is Vice president, CRS-Indian chapter. She is actively collaborating with researchers as well as industries within country and abroad and has completed Indo-Swiss, Indo-Japan, Indo-UK projects. She has executed all major grants from Indian Government, focusing on nanotechnology based product development. She has transferred many technologies to industry including drug eluting stents, being marketed in more than 60 countries.
Mark Saltzman is the Goizueta Foundation Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Chemical & Environmental Engineering & Physiology at Yale University's School of Engineering and Applied Science. Mark's research is motivated by the desire to create safer and more effective medical and surgical therapy. He focuses on tissue engineering and on creating better methods for drug delivery. His group has developed technology based on the use of bio-compatible polymeric materials for the controlled delivery of drugs, proteins, and genes. They have also developed new polymeric materials that influence the growth and assembly of tissues. However, even better than treating disease is to prevent disease from occurring in the first place. Saltzman's intent, therefore, is to develop the most economical, transportable, and accessible methods for disease prevention. Mark is also committed to training a new generation of chemical and biomedical engineers. He believes in providing a stimulating and collaborative environment that promotes the free exchange of ideas and encourages creative blending of technology and modern biological science.
