About Riddel Hall

Located in the tree-lined Stranmillis area of South Belfast, Riddel Hall is a historic grade 2 red brick listed building, set in its own attractive landscaped grounds with ample onsite parking. It has been sympathetically renovated to retain many of the original features including fireplaces, wood panelling, bannisters and iron work.

Internally, the venue is ideal for a wide range of events and offers a range of modern facilities including executive lounges, nine syndicate rooms and four larger meeting rooms.  All of the meeting rooms in Riddel Hall have the ability to facilitate a range of catering possibilities, including tea and coffee breaks for meetings, working lunches or more formal dining options.

Alongside the original building and joined to it by a glass walkway is a state of the art Conference and Training Centre, accommodating a lecture theatre for 130 and a large function space for up to 290 theatre style. Conference Suite catering can be accommodated in the glass corridors adjacent to the rooms, an ideal location for large groups to enjoy hot and cold refreshments.

The Isdell Courtyard, enclosed by a glass roof, is a multi-functional space with a capacity of 200 theatre style or 150 for banqueting. It is the central catering space in Riddel Hall with a variety of menus available to suit all occasions, from finger and fork buffets to lunch and evening banquets. The Executive Lounge also offers a light lunch menu from 12 noon to 3pm with tea and coffee available from 8am to 4pm.

Please submit your abstract(s) using the online submission form and ONLY using the template provided.

Poster format

As always, poster presentations will be at the heart of this year’s symposium. Two poster sessions will be held on Tuesday 5th June 2018, with all coffee and lunches held in the industrial exhibition and poster presentation area in order to facilitate discussions between delegates, exhibitors and presenters. During the Symposium itself, we have scheduled two poster viewing times during the Symposium on Friday (45 mins and 30 mins duration; see programme) giving presenters lots of time to not only read and discuss the posters, but also to help choose the posters worthy of prize awards. Poster boards are 120 x 120 cm, perfect for A0 in either portrait or landscape orientation.

Industrial Session & Exhibition

A series of short talks by our industrial sponsors will take place at 3–4 pm Monday 4th June. A programme will be finalised early May when we have full details.

A special exhibitors space – fully resourced with tables and power supply – will be located at the back of the main auditorium during the two-day Symposium. Many exhibitors will use this space to display equipment from their current product range. The exhibitor space will be available for set-up Monday morning from 8am onwards.

Exhibitors – please use the following shipping address. Also, if shipping multiple items, we recommend that the items are numbered, e.g. ‘1 of 3’.

Belfast is served by two airports: George Best Belfast City Airport (airport code BHD) is the closest at 3 miles from the city centre, whereas Belfast International Airport (airport code BFS) is actually located near the town of Antrim, around 18 miles away. In general, Belfast City Airport will be the better choice for most delegates.
  • Belfast City Airport is just three miles from the city centre. Translink (Northern Ireland's public transport authority) runs a regular airport service between Belfast City Airport and Europa Bus Centre in Belfast city centre.  It is route number 600 and the airport stop is just outside the terminal doors.  At the time of writing the fare is currently £2.50 single or £3.80 return (valid for 1 month), but please check Translink's website for the most up-to-date information, timetables, etc. Taxis are available outside the terminal at Belfast City Airport. The current fare is around £10 to most locations in the city centre.
  • Belfast International Airport is situated approximately 17 miles north west of Belfast City Centre (30 minutes away from Belfast city centre by car via the M2 motorway). From the airport terminal, follow the signs for Belfast, through Templepatrick village and then onto the M2 motorway. A regular airport express service with Ulsterbus links the airport with the city centre at the Europa Bus Centre (near the Europa Hotel). Journey time is approximately 30 minutes.Taxis are available outside the terminal at Belfast International Airport. The current fare is around £30 to most locations in the city centre.
Travel by train makes sense only for delegates arriving from Ireland. Regular train services are available from Dublin. Further details on the Translink website.
Taxis are available from outside the terminal buildings at both Belfast City and Belfast International Airports. At other locations, particularly in and around the city centre and University campus, we recommend the following local taxi firms. There is also a strong Uber service in Belfast.
