Following a degree in Industrial Chemistry at the University of Limerick (1992), Maura joined Elan Corporation as a Formulation Scientist until 1994. She then undertook a pharmacy degree at the University of Strathclyde (1997), qualifying as a pharmacist in 1998. She completed her PhD studies at the University of Manchester in 2002, after undertaking investigations into the processing of biodegradable polymers and proteins in supercritical fluids. She was employed as a Senior Pharmaceutical Scientist at Bristol-Myers Squibb (Moreton) from September 2003 to March 2005. She is currently employed in the Commercial Affairs Department at Pfizer Healthcare Ireland.
